The Energie- und Wasserversorgung Altenburg GmbH (EWA), a company of the town Altenburg and envia Mitteldeutsche Energie AG, with over 100 employees supplies the town Altenburg and surrounding area with electricity, natural gas, heating and water.

EWA chose SAG's Center für GeoInformationsTechnologie (CeGIT) for the complete outsourcing of its geosystem and data management. EWA thus focusses purely on the use of the digital geodata management system setup and operated by SAG.

The requirements on the customer's side consisted of the provision of the hardware and software for the network information system (NIS), the survey, the customising, the transfer of the network resources based on the geodata as well as the operation of the system.

The scope of service of the CeGIT solution for the project contains the complete introduction of NIS and its integration into the existing IT structure at EWA. A detailled usage concept was worked out for EWA based on workflow definitions. The harmonisation of the heterogeneous data sources as well as the integration of the NIS workflow into the existing IT architecture posed a particular challenge.

An extended added value was made possible by the coupling with SAP® as well as the implementation of a web enquiry information. Furthermore, a system service and support was provided and project financing made possible.

The advantage for Energie- und Wasserversorgung Altenburg from the usage of the managed geodata services of CeGIT results firstly in noticeable cost savings and, secondly, the company can concentrate even more on its core business.
